Overview

The Dash was a schooner built in Freeport, ME in 1813. During the War of 1812, it was one of the most feared American ships, easily evading British blockades of Portland Harbor thanks to her speed. On one January day in 1815, The Dash raced another boat out of Portland Harbor, easily outrunning her competitor before a Nor'easter blew in. The Dash was never seen or heard from again, yet legend has it that this ghost ship still patrols the waters of Casco Bay.
